Free Documentary Screening: 11/7/2011, 6:30pm







A free screening of The Way We Get By by Aron Gaudet will be shown at the Henry Carter Hull Library on Monday, November 7, 2011 at 6:30 pm.

On call 24 hours a day for the past five years, a group of senior citizens has made history by greeting over 900,000 American troops at a tiny airport in Bangor, Maine. The Emmy-nominated film, The Way We Get By is an intimate look at three of these greeters as they confront the universal losses that come with aging and rediscover their reason for living. (84 minutes).

Where Soldiers Come From Documentary 11/3/11




A free preview screening of Where Soldiers Come From by Heather Courtney will be shown at the Henry Carter Hull Library on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 5:15 pm.




From a small town in Michigan to the mountains of Afghanistan, Where Soldiers Come From follows the 4-year journey of childhood friends who join the National Guard after graduating from high school. As it chronicles the young men’s transformation from restless teenagers to soldiers looking for roadside bombs to 23-year-old combat veterans trying to start their lives again, the film offers an intimate look at the young Americans who fight our wars, the families and towns they come from — and the way one faraway conflict changes everything. (90 minutes).

Literary Agent Jan Kardys to speak 10/24




Jan Kardys of Black Hawk Literary Agency is giving a talk at the Library on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 6:30 pm titled
"You Wrote a Book, Now What?"


Kardys will discuss how to find and lure the right literary agent for your book, how to write a book proposal, and effective Internet marketing and promotion, and answer questions about the publishing industry. Please register for this event at this link.

Downloadable Audiobooks have changed





As of October 1, 2011, the CT State Library has changed the vendor that provides the free downloadable audiobooks to Connecticut library cardholders.


To get audiobooks at the new site, click this link.
You must install a new downloadable audio manager software to access these new books.
