Patti Smith: Dream of Life is an intimate portrait of the legendary rocker, poet and artist. Following Smith's personal reflections, the film explores her many art forms and some of the people who inspired her ‐ William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Bob Dylan, Robert Mapplethorpe and Michael Stipe.
She emerges as a crucial, contemporary link between the Beats, punks and today's music. Patti Smith: Dream of Life is an impressionistic journal of a multifaceted artist that underscores her unique place in American culture.
Winner of the 2008 Sundance Film Festival Excellence in Cinematography Award: Documentary.

What’s better than a book at the beach? A beach book author live at the library! Enjoy a visit and reading from Old Saybrook author Maggie Dana, whose heartfelt book Beachcombing is sure to delight. This coming‐of‐middle‐age story follows Jillian Hunter, a Connecticut beach cottage dweller, as she falls in love again with an old flame in London she hasn’t seen in 35 years. But trans‐Atlantic love makes Jill reckless and she ends up risking everything she's worked for ‐ her business, her home, and her two closest friends ‐ to make a life with him.

TED: Ideas Worth Spreading




An evening of technology, entertainment and design

Librarian David Boudinot will be showing a selection of TED Talks, which are powerful, 6 minute talks focused on a single topic or idea. From the latest technological innovations, to environmental issues and scientific ingenuity, this will be a night to expand your horizons. Registration is not required.

Henry Carter Hull Library collecting nylons to be used in Gulf Coast Oil Spill Cleanup

The Henry Carter Hull Library is accepting donations of clean nylons (pantyhose) which will be sent to the Gulf Coast for oil spill cleanup efforts. The nylons are stuffed full of human hair (collected from hair salons & barber shops) and animal fur which are effective at removing oil from water.

Please remember to bring some identification with you and do not sign the paperwork until you see David.
