Celebrate President Lincoln's 200th birthday at the Henry Carter Hull Library

The Henry Carter Hull Library is hosting a bicentennial birthday party on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 6:00 pm celebrating Abraham Lincoln's birth. The celebration will include a short speech by local Civil War buff Patrick McKiernan about the history of President Lincoln and the Gettysburg Address, a tour of the library's Lincoln book collection, free birthday cake, and the opportunity to get a photo taken next to a life-size cutout of Lincoln.

This event is free and no registration is required.

Feng Shui Consultant to speak at library in Clinton


Ned Farrell, a Certified Feng Shui Consultant, will be returnig to the Henry Carter Hull Library in Clinton on Wednesday February 4, 2009 at 6:30 pm.

Farrell's presentation will cover the benefits of Feng Shui including stress reduction, how to be more focused, how to enrich your relationships, and how to improve financial opportunity. Participants are encouraged to bring a hand-drawn floor plan of their home to find out how to utilize different Feng Shui techniques.

Feng Shui is the Chinese practice of arranging space and placing objects to achieve harmony with the environment.

This event is free and no registration is required.

History of Jury Duty Presentation

The Connecticut Jury Administration will be presenting a free Jury Outreach Program at the Henry Carter Hull Library about the history of jury duty on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 6:30 pm. The program will examine jury duty in various forms from the Vikings to the Witch Trials and up to present day. Participants are encouraged to bring humorous tales of their own jury duty experiences. This event is free and registration is not required.

The HCH Library is offering three types of computer workshops this winter:

Library Catalog and Electronic Databases

Do you feel frustrated when you come to the library and cannot find the information or materials you seek? This lecture will cover the basics of the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), the Connecticut library catalog (ReQuest), and an overview of the hundreds of electronic journals, newspapers, databases and magazines available to you for free.
